The Elmhurst Park District is conducting a volunteer service project for maintenance of the Great Western Prairie at 9 a.m. October lasting about 3 hours.  The Great Western Prairie is a 6-acre piece of original prairie just north of the Prairie Path from Spring Road west to Salt Creek.  The project volunteers will meet at the intersection of Berkley Ave. and the Prairie Path at 9 a.m. Saturday, October 17.  This will qualify as regular service hours for any rank and for those who are currently Star and working on Life, it can count toward the 3 hours that have to be conservation-related.  The work will involve clean-up of the area, removing invasive species, cutting and clearing brush, and other conservation work.  Participants must wear long-pants, gloves, hat and closed-toe shoes.  Sunscreen and bug spray are also advised.  Bring your own water.  Space is limited.  There is a sign-up through the Park District at this link:
