Day Trip

Date / time Sat, October 24, 2020 2:00pm–9:00pm
Location Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve

Troop 82 will hold a day-trip outing on Saturday, October 24, at Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Please join us for a day of fun and activities in the woods.  Due to Covid-19 health concerns, we will require that parents provide transportation for their Scout to and from the Forest Preserve which is about a 25-minute drive.

Activities will be hiking, cooking a camp-dinner and a campfire.  For those Scouts working on requirements for Tenderfoot through First Class there will be lots of opportunities to get sign-off on rank requirements, including the 5-mile hike, cooking, knife safety, fire safety, knots, and others.  For any Scout working on Cooking merit badge, we will have opportunities for the trail meal (let me know if you plan to work on this at the outing).  This will be a lot like a campout only without the overnight stay.

We have reserved campsites at Waterfall Glen for the day and that includes a pavilion, so we expect to hold the event rain or shine.  Due to forest preserve rules on occupancy, we have to limit the event to 24 total people which we expect to be about 20 Scouts and 4 adult leaders.  Space is limited, so sign up soon.

Since we are cooking, we also have the need for 2 Grubmasters for the outing.  Grubmasters are responsible for planning the meals, purchasing the food (all costs will be reimbursed by the Troop) and guiding the preparation.  Since this outing will only have one meal, this Grubmaster role fulfills requirements for Second Class, but not the First Class requirement.  If your Scout is interested in being Grubmaster, please let me know.

Cost for the outing is only $10.  Permission slips are attached and will be posted to the website.  Sign-ups are due to the Feedme box by the October 20 Scout meeting
