Troop 82''s summer

Posted by Scout Webmaster on Jun 21, 2016

A busy summer for the troop!

June, July and August were busy months as many Troop 82 scouts ventured to 3 summer camps: A week at Camp Napowan, a week at CFL, and two weeks of high adventure at Philmont Ranch.

Up first was Camp Napowan in June. Located in Wild Rose, Wisconsin, this camp has grown to be a favorite of scouts due to its focus on fun and merit badges. Scouts participated a variety of adventures and the 7 scouts who attended earned a combined 31 merit badges! Favorite topics included Cooking, Camping, Environmental Science, Archery, Rifle and Swimming.

Next was a July visit to Camp Freeland-Leslie in Oxford, Wisconsin, where 14 scouts attended for a week of camping. This year marked a first visit to this camp in quite some time, and all reports are that this camp is here to stay. Scouts enjoyed new features such as a bouncing pillow, ice wall, a cool lake, good food, the ever popular gaga ball and lots of merit badge classes.

Finally, 15 scouts and 6 leaders ventured west to Cimarron, New Mexico in July and early August for 2 weeks of high adventure at Philmont Scout Ranch. One of 4 high adventure camps, Philmont provides a variety of activities such as horseback riding, musket shooting, rock climbing, and fly fishing, all within the 250,000 acres of mountains and forest of the beautiful Rocky Mountains. All participants were split into 2 crews, and each managed to hike and camp over 80 miles of rugged wilderness and encountered bears, elk, deer, wild turkeys and a mountain lion! Along the way they earned their Duty to God, Wilderness Pledge and Trail of Courage badges.

We look forward to the stories they’ll tell and pictures they’ll share during the fall Court of Honor.
