A busy summer indeed, as Troop 82 scouts crossed the country in pursuit of the ultimate camping experience.
In June, 10 scouts and 3 leaders spent a fun weekend canoeing and camping at Indiana’s Turkey Run State Park. This trip is growing into a popular destination.
In early July, 19 scouts and 6 leaders spent a week at CFL in Wisconsin. This camp has grown to be the scout’s favorite, and this year’s success proves their point. In all 32 merit badges were completed, including 11 Eagle merit badges. 32 merit badges were partially completed. In addition, one Scout participated in the first year camper program to earn rank requirements; and one Eagle Scout participated in a variety of challenging activities such as rock climbing at Devils Lake, zip lining, and ATV riding.
In mid-July, 2 troop scouts ventured east to Camp Summit in West Virginia for the National Jamboree. Thousands of scouts from across the country attended this week long event as a celebration to scouting.
In late July, 11 scouts and 5 leaders traveled to the extreme north woods for a week of camping and canoeing at Northern Tier High Adventure, deep in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area of Minnesota. The 2 crews paddled a combined 143 miles, and in the process earned the Duty to God patch, Trail of Courage patch, and Water Conservation patch. Along the way, scouts enjoyed some fishing, swimming, waterfalls, ancient Native American pictographs, a variety of wildlife, all amid the beautiful scenery and clear lakes of the wilderness.
